Welcome to January—a fresh chapter, a clean slate, and, let’s be honest, a to-do list that might still have a few things lingering from last year… (Mine looks like a CVS receipt) You’re not alone.
We all have unfinished business. Those projects that didn’t quite get off the ground. Those goals that sat on the back burner while life happened. And guess what? It’s not too late. It literally never is until YOU declare that it is. So stop using time as an excuse.
Step 1: Identify your unfinished business
Take 10 minutes today to sit down with your planner, notes app, or even just a blank piece of paper. Ask yourself:
What projects, ideas, or goals did I leave incomplete last year?
Which ones still feel important to me now?
What’s one thing I can realistically finish in the next three months?
Not every unfinished project deserves your attention, so be honest. If something no longer aligns with your vision, release it.
Step 2: Make an actionable plan
Pick one unfinished project or goal to tackle first. Then, break it down into bite-sized, actionable steps. What can you do today to move it forward? This week? This month?
Remember: You don’t have to do everything at once. Progress, no matter how small, is still progress. I would rather hear you say you worked on something for 10 minutes than zero minutes.
Step 3: Commit to accountability
Share your plan with a friend, accountability partner, or even this community. Having someone to check in with can be a game-changer for staying on track.
Homework:
Pick one piece of unfinished business and commit to finishing it before March 31. Yes, March. Because life happens, and giving yourself realistic deadlines is a kindness you deserve. Our brains thrive within healthy boundaries.
What will you focus on? Share it in the comments or reply to this post. Let’s hold each other accountable and start the year with purpose. I’m focusing on client expansion within eLearning and corporate communications since that was an area where I saw high-paying clients but didn’t spend a ton of effort searching for them.
Remember, unfinished business isn’t failure—it’s opportunity. Let’s turn those lingering tasks into completed victories.
I’m going to let my guard down and take a couple improv classes, 😳 and focus on targeting businesses for voice work, and less audiobooks.
