This is, for many, the real first week back at work. While it’s tempting to dream about the whole year ahead, let’s focus on something more manageable: this week.
This is your challenge: Commit to completing three specific tasks by the end of the week. Think of it as your "creative business countdown" to start the year with momentum. I’ve created a Creative Business Planner eBook PDF to help you stay accountable to yourself. Check it out at the end of this post.
Why this week matters
The energy you bring to these first few weeks can set the tone for the months ahead. You are restarting your brain, retraining it to bend and shape in ways it might not have twisted in before. By tackling a few intentional tasks now, you’ll build confidence, clarity, and a sense of accomplishment that fuels everything else. Plus, you’ll be in the ‘rhythm’ of what you need to do making some of the menial shit less menacing.
Here are three task suggestions to help you start strong:
1. Record and send one custom voiceover pitch
If you haven’t figured it out yet, as a voiceover actor, there’s huge power in custom pitches. This week, pick one dream client or company you’ve been meaning to reach out to. Grab a piece of their existing media, add your voiceover, and share it with them. I know this is a lot of work. I know it might scare the heebie jeebies out of you. I know that there’s a good chance you’ll hear crickets. BUT. I do this nearly every day and my return in 2024 was insane.
Why it works:
You’re not waiting for opportunities; you’re creating them.
It’s a direct way to showcase your talent and value.
It’s a chance to prove what you say you can do in ONE email instead of 10
Even if the response is a "no" (or no response at all), you’ve planted a seed and begun a workflow that will keep you working.
